Marco Colonna, MD

Elected 2003
My laboratory focuses on receptors mediating innate immune responses; our accomplishments include identifying the Killer cell Ig-like receptors and defining HLA polymorphisms as their inhibitory ligands as well as discovering the LILR and TREM inhibitory/activating receptor families. We also discovered that plasmacytoid dendritic cells (PDC) play a crucial role in type I IFN responses. PDC and their role in host responses to pathogens, autoimmunity and cancer continue to be a major focus of my laboratory.
