more Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation. Dr. Zhou's current major research interests focus on polycystins — a novel family of transmembrane proteins, polycystic kidney disease, and renal cilia. She has made major contributions to molecular genetics of inherited kidney diseases (Alport Syndrome and polycystic kidney disease in particular), structure and function of glomerular basement membrane, and the function of polycystins and primary cilia in renal epithelia.
