Our primary focus is on the epidemiology of cardiometabolic and neurocognitive disorders and the impact of behavior, nutrition, and lifestyle on the risk and prognosis of those diseases. We have ascertained a broad range of population-wide effects of alcohol consumption and their modification by genetics, drinking patterns, and underlying health status, along with similar studies of several other dietary and lifestyle factors. Our work has also evaluated candidate lipid, adipokine, and related pathways leading to cardiovascular disease and diabetes that may mediate effects of lifestyle, both in longitudinal studies of populations and in controlled feeding studies.
