George Liu received his M.D. from University of California, San Diego and his PhD from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. He completed his fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of California, San Diego where he trained in the laboratory of Victor Nizet. Since 2006, he has been an independent investigator in microbial pathogenesis at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Liu’s research focuses on interaction between Gram-positive pathogens, particularly S. aureus, and the host immune system. From the bacterial side, he strives to identify novel immune evasion mechanisms that facilitate microbial invasion of the host. Conversely, he studies host antimicrobial mechanisms that keep pathogens in check. Ultimately, based on knowledge of host and pathogen interaction, the group seeks to develop novel approaches to treat infections while reducing antibiotic resistance.
