Jonathan S. Bromberg, MD, PhD, is Professor of Surgery and Microbiology and Immunology, Vice Chair for Research, Department of Surgery; Director of Research, Division of Transplantation; University of Maryland School of Medicine, and Adjunct Professor, Fischell Department of Bioengineering, University of Maryland, College Park.

Dr. Bromberg’s basic research focuses on T cell immunobiology, issues of migration, trafficking, secondary lymphoid organ structure and function, and lymphatic structure and function, and how these processes and structures influence T cell immunity and T cell tolerance in models of transplantation. He has an active clinical practice in solid organ transplantation, where he encounters and addresses immune system issues including cellular and humoral rejection, opportunistic infections, chronic viral disease, autoimmune organ failure, and immunosuppression medication side effects. He has had over 60 trainees in his lab, and is actively involved in teaching and mentoring.

Dr. Bromberg’s many honors include the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, Kidney Champion Award (2014), and the MERIT Award, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (2021).
