John Hollingsworth, MD, MSc, is a urologist and Professor (with Tenure) at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He serves as Chief Quality Officer for UF Health Shands Hospital, a quaternary academic medical center in North Central Florida, and for UF Health Physicians, a 1,000-physician multispecialty group practice. His expertise spans health services research and quality improvement at local and regional levels, with a focus on enhancing the quality, efficiency, and safety of surgical care delivery.

Over the past decade, Dr. Hollingsworth has built a robust research portfolio supported by continuous federal funding. His work has advanced the medical and surgical treatment and prevention of kidney stones; optimized team-based surgical care; and clarified how specialist physicians contribute within value-based payment reforms. Prior to joining UF Health, he was on faculty at the University of Michigan for twelve years, where he directed T32 and U2C training grants and mentored a cohort of junior investigators, many of whom have successfully launched independent research careers.

Dr. Hollingsworth has authored over 190 peer-reviewed publications. His seminal work has fundamentally changed approaches to kidney stone management, advanced methods to evaluate physician patient-sharing networks, informed the design of delivery system reforms such as Accountable Care Organizations, and contributed to policy discussions on strategies to strengthen hospital performance.

In recognition of his contributions, he has served on NIH, AHRQ, and NSF study sections and delivered invited plenary lectures at national and international meetings, including the American Urological Association and European Association of Urology. His work bridges clinical care, health services research, and system-level quality improvement, reflecting a sustained commitment to evidence-based, efficient, and equitable surgical care.
