Dr. Vaseghi is a Tenured Professor of Medicine, Cardiology, and Electrophysiology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Director of Clinical and Translational Research Programs at the UCLA Cardiac Arrhythmia Center, and faculty in Molecular and Cellular Integrative Physiology Interdepartmental program. She obtained her B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University, Suma Cum Laude. She obtained her MD at from Stanford University, and subsequently completed her internal medicine residency, cardiology fellowship, and clinical cardiac electrophysiology fellowship at UCLA. Dr. Vaseghi obtained her M.S. in Clinical Research/Biomathematics in 2011 and her Ph.D. in Molecular Cellular and Integrative Physiology in 2016. Dr. Vaseghi was awarded the prestigious National Institute of Health New Innovator Award in 2015 and the AHA Transformational Project Award in 2022, in addition to being the principal investigator on multiple other NIH grants. Her independently funded laboratory focuses on understanding the role of the autonomic nervous systems in the genesis of arrhythmias and progression of heart failure as well as evaluation of new technologies and neuromodulatory therapies for treatment of arrhythmias. She has over 135 peer reviewed publications in notable journals, receiving several awards, including the Joan and Douglas P. Zipes Publication of the Year Award. She has served as Associate Editor, Section Editor, Review Editor for several electrophysiology and physiology journals. In 2023 Dr. Vaseghi was selected as the Vice Chair of the Heart Rhythm Society Research Committee. She has a has a strong interest in promoting research and careers in academic medicine amongst physicians, especially women and minorities. She has served as Co-chair of the Academic Medicine College at UCLA’s School of Medicine and co-leads the Basic, Translational, and Clinical Curriculum for the discovery year of UCLA medical students. Clinically, she is an active cardiac electrophysiologist with expertise in performing complex catheter ablation procedures.
