Dr. Monika Goyal MD, MSCE serves as the inaugural endowed chair for Women in Science and Medicine (WISH) and Associate Division Chief for Academic Affairs and Research at Children's National Hospital. She is a tenured associate professor of pediatrics and emergency medicine at George Washington University and leads an NIH-funded research program, ADAPT-Addressing Disparities through Advocacy, Prevention, and Technology. Dr. Goyal is an internationally renowned equity science scholar, having published more than 130 peer-reviewed manuscripts and securing more than $25 million in NIH funding. Dr. Goyal's research program focuses on identifying and addressing inequities in health care to achieve health equity for all children. This work has focused on adolescent sexual health, pain management, and firearm injuries in youth. Dr. Goyal has expertise in leading clinical and pragmatic trials, implementation science, health services research, and data science. Her research has been highlighted in major news outlets such as The New York Times, Washington Post, Huffington Post, NBC Nightly News, CNN, and NPR. Further, her publication on firearm injuries among youth was recently chosen as 1 of the 15 most influential Pediatric Emergency Medicine articles ever published in Pediatrics over the journal’s 75-year history. Dr. Goyal is actively involved in mentoring students, trainees, and faculty, and has a strong interest in faculty development, especially as it relates to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. For these efforts, Dr. Goyal has received several mentorship awards across the institution and university. Dr. Goyal is also a recent alumni of the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program.
