Dr. Chiadi E. Ndumele is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology, Director of Obesity and Cardiometabolic Research and Director of the Heart Failure Prevention Program in the Division of Cardiology at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Ndumele is a preventive cardiologist, with doctoral level training in Epidemiology, who leads a research program focused on the impact of cardiometabolic risk factors on the development of heart disease and related strategies for reducing cardiovascular risk. He performs epidemiologic and clinical research utilizing complex modeling, longitudinal characterization of metabolic conditions and lifestyle measures, assessments of biomarker levels and consideration of sociodemographic variables to provide novel insights regarding the pathways underlying cardiometabolic risk. He has served as the PI for multiple R-level grants from the National Institutes of Health and as Center Director for an American Heart Association (AHA) Strategically Focused Research Network Center in Type 2 Diabetes and Cardiometabolic Health. His epidemiologic and clinical research has directly informed his leadership of the AHA Cardiovascular Kidney Metabolic Health Initiative, which has reconceptualized approaches to evaluating and addressing cardiovascular risk related to the interconnections among obesity, diabetes, chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease. His original research is frequently published in leading scientific journals and he has received multiple recognitions for his academic work, including the AHA Award for Meritorious Achievement in 2024. As an internationally recognized thought leader in cardiometabolic health, Dr. Ndumele has served in several leadership roles, including membership on the Editorial Boards of Circulation and Circulation Research, participation on writing committees for clinical guidelines, membership on the Board of Directors of the Sarnoff Research Foundation, Chair of the AHA Obesity Committee and Chair of the AHA Council on Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health.
