Dr. Holtz is a pediatric gastroenterologist at Washington University in St. Louis where she is the founding director of The Celiac Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Her translational lab focuses on the integrated use of epidemiology, bioinformatics, and molecular microbiology to address questions in the developing childhood gut. Her research has centered around understanding how the community of viruses in the infant gut develop and how this community impacts future health and disease. She is also particularly interested in the progression of celiac disease, as we may learn valuable insights into the mechanisms that allow certain children to lose tolerance to gluten.
