Dr. Manmeet Ahluwalia is a medical oncologist with a research focus in clinical investigations of novel therapeutics in primary brain tumors, and brain metastases. He serves as the Fernandez Family Foundation Endowed Chair in Cancer Research. He was appointed Chief Scientific Officer, Chief of Medical Oncology, and Deputy Director at the Miami Cancer Institute (MCI) in January 2021. He has a particular focus on increasing minority enrollment in clinical trials and served as the Co-chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) monitoring Committee of the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG). He also serves as the Chair of the Brain Tumor Working Group of SWOG. He is actively involved in various consortiums conducting clinical trials in brain tumors, including International Radiosurgery Research Foundation, Adult Brain Tumor Consortium, and NRG Oncology. His translational research has been funded by the NIH and NCI. He serves as the Co-Principal Investigator on two R01 grants evaluating a quantitative imaging phenotypic classifier for distinguishing radiation effects from tumor recurrence in glioblastoma and as the clinical trials lead on a P01 grant focused on sex-based differences in glioma. He has an established record of mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows during his career at the Cleveland Clinic and now at MCI. Many of his mentees have been recipients of national awards. He has been the recipient of multiple awards, including Crain’s 40 Under 40, the Northeast Ohio American Society of Clinical Oncology Leadership Development Program Award, the Leading in Healthcare Award from Cleveland Clinic, the Career Development Award from the National Cancer Institute/Cancer Therapy Evaluation Program (CTEP) for Clinical Trial/Protocol Development, the Most Distinguished Physician Award from the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, the designation of Fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), and the inaugural Oncology Icon Award from Targeted Oncology.
