Tobias Janowitz is an Associate Professor, oncologist, and translational scientist at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, with an adjunct appointment at Northwell Health. He holds degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Hanover, Germany, a Master's degree in Translational Medicine, an MB/BChir (M.D.), and a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. He completed clinical training in Internal Medicine and Oncology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, University of Cambridge. In 2017, he obtained a Cancer Research UK Clinician Scientist Fellowship, and in 2018, he joined Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory as faculty. His research focuses on the interactions between cancer and the host, including systemic nutrient metabolism, the neuroendocrine response to cancer, cytokine and immunobiology during cancer progression, and cancer cachexia. He has led early-phase clinical trials to develop therapeutic strategies for patients with cancer, including trials and clinical and population analyses aimed at improving organ function monitoring and access to clinical trials. He co-leads a Cancer Grand Challenges Team focused on cachexia and funded by the National Cancer Institute and Cancer Research UK. In his clinical practice, he cares for patients with pancreatic and colorectal cancer, as well as patients experiencing paraneoplastic syndromes, particularly cancer-associated cachexia.
