Dr. Satlin is Professor and Chair of Pediatrics (since 2010) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS). After receiving her MD degree from Columbia U., she completed her pediatrics residency at Columbia’s Babies Hospital and pediatric nephrology fellowship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. In 1997, she joined ISMMS as Chief of Pediatric Nephrology. Her commitment to training physician-scientists led to her subsequent appointments as Director of the ISMMS MSTP and Associate Dean for Graduate Education in Translational Research.

She has been continuously funded by the NIH since 1986 to study mechanisms leading to the acquisition, maintenance and (mechano)regulation of ion transport in the kidney in health and disease and, more recently, in kidney organoids. Her lab serves as an NIDDK-funded national “Core”, providing external investigators access to microphysiologic techniques to define function of single cells in native tissue.

She has served on grant review sections of the NIH, AHA, and the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation. She has held leadership positions in the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology (Council, then President), American Society of Nephrology (ASN, Board of Advisors), International Society of Pediatric Nephrology (North American Regional Secretary and Councilor), and AMSPDC (Chair, Research Committee). Her research accomplishments have been recognized by her selection as the Hans Ussing Lecturer of the American Physiological Society (APS), the Barry M. Brenner Endowed Lectureship from the ASN, and the Carl W. Gottschalk Distinguished Lectureship of the APS. Dr. Satlin has been elected to membership in the Society for Pediatric Research, the American Pediatric Society, and the Association of American Physicians. Having served as Chair of the NIH-funded Pediatric Scientist Development Program (PSDP) Evaluation Committee, and member of the PSDP Steering Committee, she is now Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Physician Scientist Association (APSA).
