Jarett D. Berry, MD, is Professor and Chairman of Medicine at the UT Tyler School of Medicine, where he holds the Roosth Distinguished Professorship in Clinical Research. He completed medical school and an internal medicine residency at UT Southwestern, followed by fellowships in cardiology and cardiovascular epidemiology at Northwestern University in Chicago. Dr. Berry previously served as principal investigator of the Dallas Heart Study, a large, multiethnic observational cohort based at UT Southwestern.  His research focuses on cardiovascular prevention—particularly how exercise influences outcomes across the lifespan—as well as cardiac biomarkers and risk prediction. He has shown that modest midlife elevations in traditional risk factors markedly increase lifetime cardiovascular risk; clarified the role of physical activity in preventing heart failure, especially heart failure with preserved ejection fraction; and advanced the use of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin and B-type natriuretic peptide to monitor response to antihypertensive therapy.
