Dr. Jenq graduated with honors from Princeton University with a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and received his medical degree from Oregon Health and Science University. He obtained his residency training in Internal Medicine at Duke University Medical Center, followed by a medical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC). After completing his clinical training in 2007, he joined the faculty at MSKCC, and later was recruited to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) in 2016 where he served as Deputy Department Chair of Genomic Medicine and also founded and directed the Microbiome Core Facility. In 2024, he joined City of Hope as a Professor of Hematology and Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation and Director of the Microbiome Program.

Dr. Jenq has co-authored over 100 manuscripts since 2008, including 5 co- or sole-first-author (Blood 2009, J Exp Med 2012, PLoS One 2012, Biol Blood Marrow Transplant 2015, Nat Immunol 2016) and 16 co- or sole-senior author primary manuscripts (Sci Transl Med 2016, J Clin Onc 2017, Science 2018, Blood Adv 2018, Nat Med 2019, Bioinformatics 2020, BMC Bioinformatics 2021, Sci Rep 2021, Microbiome 2022, Cell 2022, Sci Transl Med 2022, Nat Med 2023, Sci Transl Med 2023, Cancer Immunol Res 2024, Blood Adv 2024, Cell Host Microbe 2024). His work has led to six patents, two of have been licensed to Seres Therapeutics. He has served multiple times as a reviewer for the NIH and on Scientific Planning Committees for the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Transplantation and Cell Therapy. Currently, he is currently leading an R01 and a multi-institutional P01. His research efforts have focused on effects of the bacterial microbiome on outcomes in cancer patients, including hematopoietic cell transplantation, checkpoint blockade immunotherapy, and CAR-T cell therapy.
