Dr. Alice Mims is a nationally recognized leukemia specialist and physician-scientist whose career is dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). She combines compassionate patient care with innovative research, focusing on developing targeted therapeutics and other approaches to advance the AML treatment paradigm.

At The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, Dr. Mims serves as Co-Leader of the Leukemia and Hematological Malignancies Program and the Associate Director of Clinical Research within the Division of Hematology. She has authored multiple clinical trial proposals in AML and has served as principal investigator for investigator-initiated, cooperative group, and industry-sponsored studies. Her leadership has contributed to pivotal findings published in multiple high-impact journals including Nature Medicine, The New England Journal of Medicine, and the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

A cornerstone of Dr. Mims’ contributions is her role as Senior Medical Director for the national Beat AML Master Clinical Trial, which uses molecular algorithms to match older AML patients with targeted therapies. This innovative trial, published in Nature Medicine amongst other journals,  has redefined the approach to treatment selection in AML.

Beyond her work in clinical trials, Dr. Mims is passionate about understanding the biological differences that influence patient outcomes. She co-founded the MARROW Consortium, a collaborative national database that supports research into acute leukemias and myeloid malignancies, while also providing opportunities for mentorship and cross-institutional collaboration.

Her achievements have been recognized with awards such as the ASH Clinical Scholar Award, the Alliance Scholar Award, and multi-PI R01 funding from the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Mims is widely regarded as a leader in leukemia research whose efforts continue to transform how AML is understood and treated, continually working to improve outcomes for patients with these diagnoses.
