Jane Freedman, MD, is the Deputy CEO and Chief Health System Officer at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC).  She was previously the Gladys Parkinson Stahlman Professor of Cardiovascular Research and Chair of the Department of Medicine at VUMC, and Physician-in-Chief of Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital. Prior to assuming the chair role, she was the Director of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine and Physician-in-Chief of the Vanderbilt Heart and Vascular Institute.

Dr. Freedman is the current Editor-in-Chief for Circulation Research, and has also served on many national and regional committees for the American Heart Association, the National Institute of Health, and other organizations and honorific societies. She is the past President of the Association of University Cardiologists. She has been extensively involved in education, mentorship, and scientific research involving the causes of cardiac disease.  Dr. Freedman received her BA from Yale University, MD from Tufts University School of Medicine, and completed her medical training at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
