Dr. Saket Girotra is a Professor of Medicine and Cardiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He is a health services and cardiovascular outcomes researcher and directs a vibrant research program focused on improving healthcare delivery for cardiac arrest and PAD. His laboratory applies innovative methods to real world data to characterize variation in care quality and outcomes across hospitals or health systems and identify best practices with the goal of improving outcomes and reducing disparities. Recently, he launched the Peripheral Artery Disease: Long-term Survival (PEARLS) study that includes >100,000 veterans with new-onset PAD, one of the largest PAD registries in the world. The PEARLS registry is a unique resource to conduct longitudinal studies of PAD treatment and their impact on long-term outcomes. Dr. Girotra is also deeply interested in evaluating diffusion of new technology into healthcare practice and comparative effectiveness research to quantify the benefits and risks associated with new treatments. His research has led to multiple first and senior author publications in prominent journals - NEJM, JAMA, JAMA-Internal Medicine, Circulation, and JACC, with over 200 publications.
He is an Associate Editor at JAHA, Past Chair of the Research Task Force of the American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines-Resuscitation, a member of the research and publications committee for the Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival (CARES) and an international collaborative for strengthening and improving global cardiac arrest research. Dr. Girotra has co-authored several scientific statements and guidelines on cardiac arrest care. He has a long track record of mentorship and several of his mentees have established successful research programs including K and R01 funding. Finally, at UT Southwestern, Dr. Girotra is an interventional cardiologist specializing in complex coronary interventions.
