The Scumpia Lab uses a systems biology approach to investigate how crosstalk between cells of the innate and adaptive immune system affects wound healing, bacterial infection, and antitumor immunity in the skin. A major focus of the Scumpia lab is to design improved biomaterials to leverage immune cell interactions for cutaneous disease and vaccine applications. Finally, the Scumpia laboratory performs clinical research to improve non-invasive skin imaging techniques with a goal to diagnose skin disorders without skin biopsy. The Scumpia Lab is currently funded by grants from the NIH, LEO Foundation, American Cancer Society, and the VA Office of Research and Development.
