Eve A. Kerr, MD, MPH, MACP, is Professor and Division Chief, General Medicine, in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan and holds the Kutsche Memorial Chair in Internal Medicine. Prior to becoming Division Chief, she was the Inaguaral Vice Chair for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Well-being. She is the Founding Director of the Michigan Program on Value Enhancement and Senior Research Scientist at the VA Center for Clinical Management Research, where she previously served as Director for 12 years. Dr. Kerr has dedicated her research career to understanding how to more effectively translate advancements from research to routine practice in order to improve patients’ health and health care. In particular, she is internationally recognized for developing innovative, clinically meaningful methods to assess and improve quality of care and decrease low value care. She has led major studies that demonstrated a significant VA quality advantage over community care, developed “clinical action measures” to improve the intensity of blood pressure treatment that were implemented VA-wide, and developed new measures that assess and promote appropriate care. Dr. Kerr has had a stellar record of federal funding and has published well over 150 books, book chapters, manuscripts, and editorials in many high impact journals such as NEJM, JAMA, JAMA IM, Annals of Internal Medicine, and BMJ, among others. She has mentored over 30 early career faculty, many of whom are now established senior researchers. Her expertise has been sought by leaders at the Veterans Health Administration, CMS, the American College of Physicians, and Choosing Wisely International. Dr. Kerr has also been recognized for her scholarship, leadership, and mentorship through election to the National Academy of Medicine, Association of American Physicians, and American Society of Clinical Investigation, selection as a Master of the American College of Physicians, and through the VA Undersecretary for Health Award for Excellence in Health Services Research and the Society of General Internal Medicine John M. Eisenberg National Award for Career Achievement in Research.
